Dr. Martinez teaches courses in reading education and educational psychology for the undergraduate teacher education programs. She also teaches courses in the Masters in Education program.

Brief Biography: I was born and raised in Eau Claire, WI. After graduating from UWEC, I moved to Alabama and spent 17 years there teaching for the Department of Defense at the Fort Benning School District, Fort Benning, GA. After receiving my Ph.D. from Auburn University, I moved to higher education and worked for Troy University-Phenix City Campus. I moved back to Wisconsin in June of 2007 and began working at UW-Stout in August of 2007. My husband and I live in Elk Mound, WI.

  • Effective strategies for teaching culturally and linguistically diverse students.
  • Improving vocabulary and comprehension through interactive read-aloud.
  • Using multicultural children's literature to increase cultural appreciation and awareness.
  • Effective strategies for online teaching.
