Jason Schmitt serves as Dean for the College of Arts & Human Sciences. In this role, Schmitt works with associate deans, department chairs, program directors, faculty, staff, students and community leaders to ensure the College is delivering exception educational and vocational training for UW-Stout students and the surrounding community.
Prior to joining UW-Stout, Schmitt served as Interim Dean for the School of Arts & Sciences at Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, where he fostered clear communication and transparency, leading an intersection between business, community leaders and higher education pathways. He has experience in startup company creation, business journalism and business model evaluation for venture capital funding along with wide-ranging media skills that helped propel the global Open Access agenda within scientific scholarship through his documentary, “Paywall: The Business of Scholarship.”
He previously held the role as Clarkson University’s Associate Dean of Strategic Development and Recruitment and served eight years as Department Chair of Communication, Media & Design.
He’s excited to be part of the UW-Stout community and enjoys modern oil painting, running the Red Cedar Trail and competitive tennis in his spare time.
