For families and caregivers, it is helpful if you support these efforts in preparedness if an outbreak were to happen.

People at major risk for this virus include

  • Older adults
  • People with medical conditions such as:
    • Heart disease
    • Diabetes
    • Lung disease

What you should do to prepare if an outbreak happens in your community.

  • Have supplies on hand
    • Obtain extra necessary medications to have on hand in case you need to stay home for an extended period of time or consider mail-order for medications
    • Have over-the counter medicines and supplies on hand to treat fever and other symptoms
    • Stock up on extra groceries in case you need to stay home for an extended period of time
  • Take everyday precautions
    • Avoid people who are sick
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds
    • Use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol
    • Do not touch your face, nose and, eyes
    • Disinfect your home (tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, remotes, etc.)
    • Avoid closed-in settings with little air circulation
